Strengthening Communities
Supporting members in leading healthier lives and connecting them to needed resources begins in the community. In every market we serve, we partner with local community resources —such as schools, advocacy groups, community and faith-based organizations, and local businesses — to address community priorities and specific health concerns.
Valued Partner Organizations
Atlanta CareerRise
With the support of Atlanta CareerRise, our Georgia health plan has been able to collaborate with multiple community partners to create an innovative Apprenticeship Initiative program in the field of Information Technology that is creating new employment opportunities for young adults.
Little Free Library
Through our partnership with Little Free Library, their Native Community Project has improved access to books and promoted literacy by placing 64 of their libraries across tribal lands encompassing several states.
“The Turtle Mountain Chippewa (Ojibwa) Reservation sits south of the Canadian border just east of central North Dakota. The area, like most reservations, is plagued with poverty and unemployment. Because of the poverty buying books is not a priority or often even an option. The Little Free Library will provide the only community library on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in a location that is highly accessible to the community, both to children and adults.”

David’s Legacy
Amerigroup is partnering with David’s Legacy Foundation to educate children and communities about the harmful effects of cyber-assisted bullying. In addition to expanding their awareness campaign, we are helping to launch a pilot in San Antonio that will focus on student-developed campaigns to curb cyber abuse.
Creating Solutions Together
We stay actively engaged in local communities, listening to priorities and needs to help ensure we continually evolve to meet those needs. One way that we gain feedback in markets is through Listening Tours: sitting down with our stakeholders, including members, community organizations, advocates, and key provider associations. Some solutions we have implemented due to our Listening Tours include:
- Offering LiveHealth Online to enhance telehealth capabilities.
- Implementing additional value-based payment programs for providers.
- Creating new housing, employment, & food programs.
- Reducing over 200 authorizations for providers.
- Developing dozens of new value-added services for our members.
Our Associates’ Commitment
At Amerigroup, our people are our differentiator. We come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but what we have in common is passion, respect, imagination, and a commitment to making health care better for our members and our communities.
Our associates in Texas partnered with Walgreens, community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations to offer COVID-19 vaccine pop-up events in communities where health disparities exist.
Responsive to the Needs of the Communities We Serve
Our associates are deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of the members we serve, and because we live in those same communities, we are invested in contributing to the communities, especially when disasters strike.
In Texas:
- Our swift and comprehensive response to members and communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 was recognized with the “Getting it Right Award” from Portlight Strategies.
- During the natural disasters and emergencies in Texas occurring the first two weeks of May 2019, Amerigroup reached out to impacted members in the Houston and Travis Service Areas and connected 284 members to needed services and supports.
Our Tribal Liaison collaborated with the Seattle Indian Health Board to become the first health plan in Washington to create a value-added benefit that honors traditional healing benefits for American Indians and Alaska Natives.

What Our Associates Say
“It starts with listening first. We use a person-centered approach to identify members’ goals… and then put the services and supports in place that will help them achieve that.”
